Domaine Carneros Sparkling Wine

Domaine Carneros maintains the same commitment to quality that has been the tradition at the Taittinger Champagne House since the 1930's. Domaine Carneros uses organically grown grapes picked at night or early morning in their sparkling wine production. Only first press juice is used. Domaine Carneros is 100% organic and only grapes from Carneros are used for winemaking. With over 350 acres in multiple sites and more land being developed, they will soon use only estate grown grapes in their production of over 50,000 cases of wine per year.

History

Domaine Carneros' history begins with Taittinger, the well known French Champagne House. Claude Taittinger began his search for a suitable place to make sparkling wine in the United States according to the Taittinger Champagne House tradition in the 1970s. Land purchases were made in partnership with their distributor, Kobrand, in the 1980s and plans were soon in place to create the spectacular venue we know today.

Eileen Crane was hired in 1987 to establish their California winery. Eileen is the sparkling winemaker and now holds the title of CEO. Domaine Carneros was modeled after Chateau de la Marquetterie in Champagne, France, but on a more grandiose scale. Chateau de la Marquetterie was included when Pierre Taittinger established the Taittinger Champagne House in the 1930's.

Domaine Carneros is currently owned by Taittinger and Kobrand while Eileen Crane is the CEO and winemaker. For more about Taittinger's history, refer to our Taittinger History report.
