Pomponne Glass Review

Pomponne champagne glasses are champagne glasses without a foot or stand. This style has actually been around for some time but the origin is uncertain. One theory is that they were originally regular flutes whose stands had been broken accidentally.

The problem with this type of glass is that it is not very functional since it can not stand upright on its own. The champagne tends to be consumed rather quickly since you are not able to rest the glass on a table. There are some manufacturers that produce a stand that can hold the glass. The set up seems somewhat awkward. If you’re at an event, you would have to return to your stand any time you wanted to rest your champagne glass.

There are other manufacturers that are producing stemless champagne glasses and calling them “pomponnes”. The terminology may catch on, but technically they are different types.
