Krug Clos Du Mesnil 2000
Production

Krug uses the méthode champenoise for their champagne production. The Clos Du Mesnil 2000 is composed of 100% Chardonnay from a 4.5 acre single vineyard plot in the grand cru village of Mesnil-sur-Oger from the 2000 harvest. The vineyard was purchased by Henri Krug in 1971. Krug Clos Du Mesnil is aged more than ten years in the cellars before release. Base wine fermentation takes place in 205 liter old oak barrels. This is not to emphasis oak on Krug wines, but to allow some contact with oxygen in the beginning. This truly enhances the long term aging potential and adds richness.

Louis Vuitton-Moet Hennessy acquired Krug in the late 1990s. Logistics and administration have been streamlined, but wine production still rests with the Krug family. The same level of perfectionism that has trademarked Krug's commitment to excellence remains in place. Any wine that does not live up to Krug's standard of excellence is relegated to one of the other LVMH holdings.
